Hi guys!!

A short update of the past trip...

We had our FIRST open water trip of the year in the September break at Tioman Island! We're also very glad to have 9 students complete their Openwater Divers Course, 2 students and 2 teachers complete their Advanced Divers Course with us this time! :)

It's always a joy to introduce students to the awesome underwater world. Year after year, would-be divers come on trips like these with us and each time, yet the satisfaction of seeing students become new divers never fails to put a smile on our faces. So Live to Dive on people!!!

Coming Up!

We have a dive trip planned on the 21st of November to Singapore's very own Pulau Hantu!

Spaces are VERY limited, so please email/text/fb/look us up to register!!! :)

The trip will cost $10 and we will be doing 2 dives. Things you can look forward to see are the well-known Sea Horses that inhabit Pulau Hantu and very little elsewhere, due to Hantu's year-round shelter from the monsoon.

First Event of the Year!!!

Hello all!

As you all know, due to the outbreak of Influenza A, we had to postpone our dive trip. (GRRRR!!!) However, NP Divers Club had plan activities just for YOU!

Presenting the first event of the year:

3d2n dive camp 2009 !!!

The camp will be held right after your CTs. Isn't that shiok?! Double yayness!!

Held on June 14 - 16, 2009 (Sunday - Tuesday)

Accommodation will be at Kismis Apartments.

Food will be provided. (pss! Bear in mind, we got a wonderful chef around!) Kindly let us know if you have any special preference.

At the same time, we planned a try-out dive just to prepare you before we hit the big blue sea. So do remember to bring along your swim gear!!

We'll be selling our club singlet @ S$12. Do tell us the size you need, alright?

Don't hesitate! CCA points will be awarded!! YAY!! Confirm your attendance ASAP! You wouldn't want to miss out great fun with NP DIVERS' CLUB!

Urgent Notice!!

Hi all,

I have received an urgent update from the school and I regret to inform you that due to the current Swine Flu outbreak in the North Americas, the school has decided to postpone all overseas trips. Thus, our upcoming trip to Malaysia will also be postponed as such. Pool sessions and theory lessons will be postponed as well.

This is due to the potential risk of catching the highly transmittable Influenza A virus, which can spread from human to human through droplets or contact. Suspected cases have appeared in Indonesia and there are 1 confirmed cases in both Thailand and South Korea.

Nevertheless, we are looking forward to when the order is lifted, and we can then resume our much awaited dive trip! Do check back often for updates as we will post details of the trip as soon as we receive the go-ahead.

Big Blue by National Geographic (24 April to 3 May)

Marine Conservation Presentation '08

Hola amigos!

We, the people from NP divers held our Marine Conservation Project Presentation '08 last Friday at the school's library. A big thank goes out to those who did a splendid job in doing all the talking, as well as the other club members who attended. Oh, and not forgetting the school directors and club advisors.

First, we did a PowerPoint slide presentation, explaining the process and details of this Conservation Trip. Than came a documentary video which was narrated by two of our divers about their first account experiences on trying to make a difference at Pulau Aur. Finally, a picture show was screened, wrapping up the whole presentation.

The rest of us mingled a bit after that. The refreshment was good... You got to love the sandwiches. ;) That's pretty much how this whole thing went.

Conservation trip 2008

a grp of us went to Pulau Aur on Sept 25th for a 5D4N conservation trip & thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. here's a little post of the trip~

we deployed mooring lines so that boats need not use anchors which may destroy corals.

All participants are required to sign an Indemnity form and must meet all criteria of the program in order to proceed with the program
All participanyts should bring their own swimsuit, towel, toiletries, scuba certification (if available) and prescription mask (if available). Dive equipment will be provided by UWS.
Participants are required to report to the Duty Manager at UWS Oceanarium 15 minutes before the session starts.

FAQ for new members

Hi, I have receive many questions regarading the club and our courses.

Here are some of the common questions asked:

1) What are the meeting times?
We do not have scheduled weekly meetings. We are very activity based and we open our registration for each activity. Meeting timings will be posted on this blog.

2) Do I need any certification before joining the club?
You do not need any diving certification to join our club. You can join a course for certification upon joining. No certification for swimming is need, however you are require to be able to swim.

3) I have no experience in diving, what the first step upon joining the club?
Our registration for our first trip is OPEN. We require our members to be certified divers. If you are not certified, you will need to register for the OPENWATER DIVER COURSE. Registraion will close soon please email us your name, nric, student number, contact number and email to sgin up. You will be notified of the first meeting soon.

4) How am i considered a member of this club?
We will consider you a member of the club after your first dive trip with us. CCA points are given after completion of each activity that you participate in.

CONSERVATION TIME

Hey there babes its the conservation time of the year! Non-stop diving for 10 days straight, beautiful tans, great food and the waters at AUR will belong to us only which only means big and bigger fishies!!!

Eh i dont have the the pictures of last year's conservation but i do have some intesting stories, we got to go on TV as "models"(FOC, no pay) :( , played volley ball at dayang and had a mini competition with the local kids during the delightful exchange program where some of us tried to kidnap the adorable kids, tied buoys and built the water breaker which was sheer madness!

However this time, we have made a few tiny changes we are not doing the waterbreaker anymore but.... we are doing something FAR more interesting!!! Artificial reef building!!!!

As you guys know, our teachers and alumni have organised this conservation project to give back to the sea since it has given us so much joy. Now it's time to give back guys!! So that it will last forever and ever!

Futhermore for those who can't make it for the full ten days, you can still join the rest of us for the nitrox course!!! We will still continue our buoy tying and exchange programme with the school kids as these are some very meaningful activities.

I'll attatch a article about the artificial ref building for u guys to view :) so enjoy n get back FAST to Jonathan and "chop" your seats as there are limited spaces!!!

Prices: Conservation trip (10 days) : -normal: $700

- 50% subsidy from NP: $350 (only $35/day!!!)

Conservation trip + nitrox course: -normal: $700+ $160

For those who are interested, You will be require to go through a course whereby you will acquire a lifetime license to dive almost anywhere in the world, the course will be held next month whereby we will be having a booth from 24th to 28th April @ the Atrium, registration will be at the booth then.
